The plight of the poor is oft-lamented in this country, but rarely does
anyone actually take any action to help them.
It as is if the wealthy have abandoned their less-fortunate fellow men,
in favor of greater profits and reduced taxes. Captains of American
industry are applauded when they cut their work force and reduce costs.
But when costs are reduced through the elimination of staff, it costs every
American money. People without jobs are eligible for unemployment
compensation, which is insufficient but is still better than nothing. If
an individual cannot find a job within six months, unemployment compensation is
terminated, and they eventually end up on welfare, living on a pittance of a
handout from the state.
It does not have to be that way. Given the chance virtually everyone would
rather work for their living, would prefer to actually accomplish something.
There is a solution for the increasing welfare rolls in this country, a solution
for the decreasing middle class and increasing wealth of the upper class.
With the help of Colt Firearms, Inc., a new plan has been formulated that
will eliminate income differential, that will reduce violent crime (eventually)
and that will give every single American citizen an effective way to earn a
living.

The rifle in the picture above is a modified M-16A2, fitted with a bipod,
a high cheek stock, sling mounts and a scope. While these were previously available
on the commercial market for ~$1300, Colt has agreed to make 65 million of
these rifles available to the US Government for a price of just over $420 each.
How, you ask, does this relate to our current welfare situation? It's simple,
really.
The plan we propose is a one-step plan which will end the welfare system in
America:
One month after passing the requisite legislation, the final welfare and unemployment payment will be given in the form of one (1) M-16A2 rifle (outfitted as above) six (6) thirty-cartridge (30) magazines, and one thousand (1000) rounds of 5.56mm ammunition to fit said rifle.
This may seem extreme but I assure you, it is not. Advantages to this solution
are manyfold. Here are just the most obvious:
- Reduction in need for police:
With all low-income citizens now armed, they will be able to defend
themselves from gang violence and intruders. Police will only be
required for such routine coverage as traffic enforcement.
- Reduction in violent crime:
What criminal would rob a citizen when that citizen is better armed
than the perpetrator?
- Skill Training & National Defense:
In effect, every American citizen will be ready to defend this country
from foreign attack, on a mere moment's notice. How far would
Charles Whitman have gotten that day in Texas, had the locals been
able to effectively return fire?
- Instant reduction in Income Differential:
It won't take long for the wealth to redistribute itself when the
have-nots are armed as well as the haves!
- Elimination of Unemployment:
The Have's will quickly employ a number of the have-nots as personal
guards, to defend against the remainder of the armed poor.
- Improved Self-image among the formerly poor:
Since the wealth has redistributed itself, and many of the formerly poor
are gainfully employed as guards, there will be virtually no one who
doubts their own worth.
- Guaranteed Equal Rights:
White supremacist groups will no long be able to threaten minority
groups with superior firepower and burning crosses. And, by the same
token, any outnumbered person will be effectively equal to
their attackers. God may have created all men, but Samuel Colt made
them equal.
- Instant Elimination of Overpopulation:
Our world is desperately overpopulated, and arming everyone will
reduce the population rather drastically.
There are, however, some drawbacks:
- Increased Murder Rate:
This is actually an advantage--see "Instant Elimination of Overpopulation"
- The Haves Will Live in Fear:
Again, this is a reflection of another advantage: Guaranteed Equal
Rights. The Haves will be forced to live life as their formerly poor
brethren did.
- Property Damage:
This isn't a disadvantage at all--just think of the boom in
construction once things calm down.
As you can see, this solution is the only practical course of action.
